The British-German VOICES team was represented with two presentations at this year’s MeCCSA Annual Meeting in Edinburgh:

  • Darren Lilleker, Maike Dinger & James Morrison: “Marginalisation and belonging in deindustrialised communities in England’s North” (4 September 2025);
  • Anke Fiedler & James Morrison: “How do different models of media regulation influence approaches to social inequality: A comparative qualitative analysis of key media regulation texts from Germany and the UK” (5 September 2025).

The conference also saw James Morrison awarded a runners-up certificate in the Best Edited Collection category of the 2025 MeCCSA Outstanding Achievement Awards, for the book Silenced Voices and the Media: Who Gets to Speak?. The collection, co-edited by Professor Sarah Pedersen of Robert Gordon University, focuses on the under-representation of marginalised social, economic and cultural groups in media discourse, and in the creative and cultural industries.
